Mechanical trigger 5 Replies

Any wind up mechanism like those found in cheap toy cars will do. As these are regulated (unwind/rotate at a constant speed) mechanisms, the output can be connected to a cradle to rotate camera. An...

Sorry everybody. Was a little distracted with other things. Will post details shortly as I have basically built the whole rig without documenting it. Will do it asap.

Without sounding greedy, can you also post some pics of your solar balloon and some how2 on that?
Chimang Comment by Chimang on October 19, 2008 at 8:41am
Skipper, This is great. Assam is fairly gusty year round. Please post detailed How2. Wanna start asap.

Can you please post some detailed info, step by step how2 on the whole setup. I am finding it difficult to get the concept and the different aspects of KAP.

Avril, Yes, the construction is simple and flexible enough. I used an old Fuji (3MP i guess). I had to open the camera and modify the shutter release. The First Kite I built is about 7' tall and I have flown it at heights of 500'+, given space and the right wind conditions.

Skipper, I like the idea of the mech trigger. Can we have more details? And knowing you, this is just part of the story. What else does it do -- or have you made the poor thing do?
Ps. It is difficult to start calling you Skipper from Chetan Sir. But I will try.

Skipper, These are lovely. Can anybody do it? Is it complicated to build? What camera have you used? How high does it fly? How big is it?
I know you will kill me for this, But can we buy the kit and .......SORRY.
Just that I am in a hurry to try it out.

OH. BY THE WAY, I MUST HAVE SPENT ABOUT 400 RS ON THE WHOLE THING + A LOT OF THOUGHT (CAMERA NOT INCL)

I have been into RC flying for several years and the first thought was to use a servo to trigger the cam.(like you)
But then I realised that there was a cheaper and more exciting way to do it. I used an old wind-up musical thingamajig, and after modifications ended up with a gadget which can pan and click (10 shots/360 deg rev of the camera). I had to sacrifice control on tilt as I didn't have another one of these. So I just pre set it before launch.
The most exciting part is the anxiety of not knowing what you have shot. But who cares, they all look beautiful. Also, I just delete the bad ones, cock it up and fly for more.
I feel the auto feature here is good since it is difficult for one man to operate the RC and fly the kite too.
