Do It Yourself Club

Would you rather own a razor or visit the barber daily?

There was a time, not so long ago, when a brilliant student's future depended on an ill-affordable Casio calculator or a Rotring Pen set. When Bajaj Scooters had a 5-10 year booking. When vehicle owners carried spare brake cables bcoz they snapped at will. When an Ambassador car came with a starting handle. I for one would have settled for an analog multi-meter for a dowry when the in thing was a precious HMT watch.

We have come a long way. Have we really, why and how is a matter of debate.

This place is for those +40'ers who rue those days and say 'If only we had....'
This place is also for those -20'ers who think 'Fiskars' scissors are made by a relative of Sachin Tendulkar and hence Indian.

FIAT AND THE ELUSIVE HAND BRAKE

Fiat cars were being manufactured in India by Premier Automobiles Ltd (PAL).
These were designed by the Itlalians and the originals had 2 Bucket seats up front and the hand brake was between the seats. When being made in India, these were Indianised and replaced with a bench seat (to accommodate more than 2). But PAL forgot to relocate the hand brake and it remained snugly inaccessible and forgotten, under the seat. Most Fiat car owners were blissfully unaware of the very existence of this life saving device in their cars and many may have even paid the price with their lives.
